Before we went on the waterslide, we checked outside for harmful UV light rays which can burn and damaged your skin.

Everyone made a bracelet with pipecleaners and threaded ten UV beads on to it. We checked them in the shade and the V beads stayed white. |

Then we exposed them to the sunlight on the junior court, and found the beads turned different colours, showing the presence of UV rays. |

Next we placed some UV beads in a plastic bag and smeared the outside of the bag with 30+ sunscreen. When we put the bag in the sun, we saw that the beads only coloured a little, which told us that most of the UV rays were blocked by the sunscreen. Next time we will use 50+ sunscreen to see if all the UV rays are blocked. After that Mrs Bear gave everyone some sunscreen to rub on to protect their skin on the water slide. |
